selection install
Install selected skills, MCPs, or hooks from an AgentRig plugin.
Selection install
Selection install lets you install only the artifacts you want from an installable registry plugin.
Plugins remain AgentRig's primary distribution unit. A plugin can contain many skills, MCP servers, hooks, commands, and supporting files. Selection install is the selective path for users who only need part of that bundle.
Install selected artifacts
Use top-level install with repeated --pick flags:
agentrig install codex agentrig/agentrig.core-committer \
--pick skill:codex-analysis \
--pick skill:gitwhatEach pick uses <kind>:<name>. Supported selection kinds are:
skillmcphook
Selector names are canonicalized to lowercase; dots, hyphens, and underscores in
manifest names are preserved, so regenrek.qa-single becomes
skill:regenrek.qa-single.
If every pick has the same kind, you can use the kind-specific helper:
agentrig skill install codex agentrig/agentrig.core-committer \
--pick codex-analysis \
--pick gitwhatRefs are latest-first by default. Add @<version> only when you need to pin an
exact plugin version for reproducibility or rollback.
Install a standalone skill
Standalone skill artifacts are installed without --pick:
agentrig skill install codex agentrig/acme.review
agentrig skill uninstall codex agentrig/acme.reviewThe source must be an installable registry skill artifact. AgentRig resolves
the latest version through an InstallBundle, installs the skill, and records
the concrete resolved version plus snapshot digest in the install ledger. You
can add @<version> to install or uninstall a pinned standalone skill.
Standalone MCP and hook installs without --pick are not a public V1 flow. MCPs
and hooks are installed from plugin bundles with --pick.
Uninstall a selection
Pass the same source and picks to remove the AgentRig-managed Selection Bundle:
agentrig skill uninstall codex agentrig/agentrig.core-committer \
--pick codex-analysis \
--pick gitwhatUninstall is hash-owned:
- files are removed only if they still match the recorded digest.
- MCP and hook JSON keys are removed only if their current value still matches the value AgentRig wrote.
- modified user files or JSON entries are kept and reported as modified.
Closure checks
Selection installs are checked by @agentrig/sdk before files are written.
An artifact can be installed when it is closed over its required files:
- required files live under the selected artifact root, or
- required dependencies are explicitly declared and selected.
If a skill depends on undeclared shared files outside its root, AgentRig refuses the selection install. Install the full plugin or choose the required declared dependencies instead.
Trust model
Selection install is registry-backed. The source plugin must have an
installable AgentRig listing. blocked, yanked, and taken_down entries do
not become installable just because an artifact directory exists.
For arbitrary author repos, use agentrig inspect and agentrig use; those
commands create external-repo provenance, not registry trust.
